1st fish on new fly rod

Took the fly rod on vacation to my dad's land. We had to bush hog the perimeter of the property and bush hog around the pond. Here is a picture of me taking a break and fishing. I know the picture isn't that good but it is all I have. Caught numerous bluegill the size of your hand and a few large mouth. Biggest bass was maybe 1/2 pound. Not really a match for the 8wt but it was still fun catching on the fly.

Here is a picture of me working the bush hog.

WTG on the catch!! That's a very beautiful piece of property.

I can give you a piece of advice from the picture. Look at the one where you are casting. See how wide that loop is? The diameter of the loop corresponds directly to the distance your rod tip travels. So, if you shorten your casting stroke, the loop will be tighter (known as "sexy loops")
Why does this matter? Tighter loops have more velocity and offer much less wind resistance than an open loop. Giving you the opportunity to fish in very windy conditions.

    Thanks guys.

THat is a DR field mower/bush hog. It has a lever that you could lock both wheels into gear. That came in handy at times. Kinda like a 4 wheel drive. IT is amazing what you can do with both wheels pullng!!

One More Cast - Thanks for the tip. Never thought of it like that but it makes sense. I hope to get better with practice. I have two buddies that fly fish pretty good and they have both said they would help me. Watching them cast pisses me off. THey make it look so easy.

For those that do not know Byrd, he will master this in no time. Rods quickly just become an extension of his arm. He has an awesome feel for the rod and line.

I can see lots of evenings this fall wading with the fly rods for stripers!!!
