Ok, I'm very late with this report
That sunday I went only with my parents-in-law to the beach.
I was looking forward to fish the rivermouth from the beach and also my fly kites. I know there are small mullet on the river and I wanted to catch my first fish ever on a lure, but the wind was blowing hard. I started casting dead bait (shrimp) but the wind was driving me nuts. I had no idea in which direction to cast and also I was clueless where the sinker was "landing". After several minutes we decided to leave the beach and move to a few yards back on the river, next to the mangroves. There we were partially protected from the wind.
It was low tide (the difference between low tide and high tide is 7 feet) and I went walking on the river, to check if I could have access to the mangroves. No luck. I think I would need a kayak to fish for snook
I casted a DOA shrimp rig a few times while walking back and did not catch anything.
Then I set up a sabiki with tiny hooks and tipped with tiny pieces of shrimp. I caught two of these
Same specie that I caught the sunday before.
The fish were stealing my bait very fast, so I cut little pieces of "fishbites" and tipped the sabiki with it
Took some time, but I caught this fellow
My first whiting!
gottaflylee, that other day all the fish I caught were of the same specie of the 2 first pictures ... but this time I caught a whiting!![]()
It was hard to unhook these fish and I had to cut the line on of the 3 fishI decided to move to a larger sabiki and check out what I caught
Oh yeah, catfish, baby! The catfish are back!
Then I caught a different specie
My first picture for the facials thread
I've never had seen a picture of that blowfish specie before, so I was very surprised.
I also had to cut the lineI think I'm going to make rigs with circle hooks for my next trip.
... then my first ever double header
Man, the catfish really like to make me happy!
I tried the DOA shrimp rig for a bit more. Casted it and let it float away with the current, going up in the river. No luck.
We called it a day.
2 "unknown specie" fish
3 catfish
1 blowfish
1 whiting
7 fish total, my best saltwater catch so far
Thanks, in laws! Looking forward to the next trip.
