Arrived in PV/Punta Mita Weds. March 3rd with the wife, my buddy Chris and his wife. Got settled in and looked out in the bay to see the Offshore Adventure mother ship anchored up. Thought this may be a sign of good things to come. Finished the day at Margarita’s and Hector literally poured the food and drink on us till we begged him to stop. I owe you Hector!
Thursday: We fished with Lora www.fortunasportfishing.com at 9:00 A.M. Called him that morning and told him we’d be late due to previous night’s festivities. Started at the point with goggle eyes with no luck. Made bait of green jacks and the bite was on right in front of the Four Seasons. We’re fishing and I hear Lora say Tequila? He’s right! I turn around and my boy is chumming! Soon after I hook one and hand him the reel and he lands his first rooster. Shortly after more chumming. Had many bites and ended with three nice roosters. Called it quits, a good start to the trip. Lora’s brother Pancheco had seven that day.
Friday: We fished with Mitchell, Manuel, and Arillio on El Matador www.elmatadorsportfishing.com We left Punta Mita at 7:30 A.M. heading for el banco. Ran out to the bank in calm seas and started pulling lures. Ran 12 miles toward Prison Island and picked up a nice sailfish. The purse seiners were around and on the move. Turned around and headed to within around 4 miles of the bank I believe and the Tuna rose up around 1:00!!!! Tuna were busting in BIG schools! I caught a nice fish and Chris was next. He’s hooked up quick and fights a fish for an hour and fifteen +/- and we get close color 3-4 times. This is a real nice fish, biggest of the day, 175-200+ maybe. She’s close and tired and the hook pulls, WTF!!!!! Oh well! We get more bites and at one time we’re tripled up. The crew and all of us get to pull on fish at one time or another! We ended up with four more nice fish for the day and missed more. Final Count 5 nice tunas! We decide to head for the barn and leave with the fish busting and biting! Lora got close video of one of the seiners pulling in their nets – Holy Chit! Fat Tunas stuck on top of each other – F. You! Lora ended with eight nice tunas that day. He and Manuel both said it was a great day and I couldn’t have agreed more!!! Best Tuna bite I’ve seen yet! Back to El Dorado/Margarita’s to celebrate and eat the days catch!!!!
Sunday: 7:00 A.M. - I fished solo with Lora for 2 ½ hours same spot as Thursday. Is there a Betty Ford clinic for fishing, my wife wants to know??? Made bait quick and the bite was back on. Got three nice roosters again and missed more than that. We called it a day to get ready for the trip back home later.
My best fishing trip yet to PV. My buddy Chris got his first rooster, pacific sail, and tuna. Nice weather, calm seas, cold beer, and great fishing!!!! Big thanks to Manuel, Mitchell, Arillio, Manny, Lora, and Juan for the fishing! They worked hard as usual! Thank again to Hector at Margarita’s – the tequila tremors have finally subsided. Be back later in the year!
If this bite holds up – I’d recommend going now if possible!!!!
