I had to drink two cups of espresso to stay awake long enough to download some pics and ticker tapper on the keyboard. While this will certainly not be my most detailed report, please take the infections on my hands, the dark circles under my eyes, and the incoherent ramblings as proof that the fishing is as good as it gets out there, and that i have been running non-stop in the thick of it.
I really wish i had bothered with the camera for the past two weeks, because we have had some truly spectacular catches. But the truth of the matter is that i have no deckhands up here, and when the chit hits the fan like it has for the last two weeks there is little time for picture taking. Instead, i'm running from the rods to the net, to the wheel, back to the rods, over to the net again, reaching for the gaff, beating a halibut over the head, raiding the tackle box, stuffing the fish box, and occasionally sneaking a slurp of water, beer, fireball whisky, or even rarer a bite to eat. The camera becomes an all but forgotten thing.
It's madness out there amigos, and once again the decks of the Anyhow run red.
Limits every day out there, and somehow the fishing just keeps getting better.
To all of my friends whom i have called in the last two weeks to encourage you to get your asses up here, i have this to say:
You are nuggets for not coming, because this is as good as it gets.
With the exception of two of the following pics, everything is from this afternoon where Cath, her brother Sepp, and i snuck out after i got back from a 3/4 day charter. Yes, i still go fishing in my time off, especially when the getting is this good. With some help on the boat we managed to snap some pictures, and i think you'll get the general idea of what all the fuss is about.
They might not be giant marlin and tuna, but goddamnit any kind of fishing, when it's this good, is just plain good old fashioned FUN. Three Tyee's (kings over 30#'s) this afternoon and counting, plus another two dozen thrown in for giggles. That made for something like 40 - 50 king salmon for the DAY, and the eighth consecutive trip in a row with kings over 30.
Keep that chit coming baby, all season long!!!
(We're off to PV and a trip on the Maximo in a week, so Herk and Ben please leave a few marlin and tuna for me. I'll trade you some smoked salmon, and maybe if you're lucky a halibut fillet.)
