I am officially changing the name. Strike Panama from the record book, we're calling it "Tunama" from now on.
Fishing was pretty tough today. We gave up fishing tunas by noon.
Not for lack of fish, oh dear lord in heaven no.
Because nobody wanted another backbreaker fight or had the energy to toss out another popper.
Twenty miles of breaking fish and mayhem.
Then roosterfish and pargo on the way in.
We got our asses handed to us today by a non-stop barrage of fish on spinning gear, including some real dozers that came real close to rupturing disks on more than one occasion. At one point i remember turning to Chad as i'm fighting yet another bruiser and pleading "Please...(sucking air in)....PLEASE CHAD...take us inshore fishing after this!!!"
Three hours of non-stop topwater action and we were cooked. But because it's Panama you don't just run back to the dock and start swilling beer. Nope. You have to stop and fish the roosters and pargos on the way in, and that's precisely what we did.
Huge thanks to Chad and his incredible crew at Paradise Lodge. And to Curtis and Kevin too. Chad's place is aptly named - if there's a more picturesque setting for tropical lifestyle and big game fishing i don't need to know about.
What a way to start the trip!!!
