Summer's nowhere near over but we got one in the lead for the annual summerlong tx star tournament. Caught on a Makaira Lena 'Ambush Special'. BOOM!

We had a great mixed bag of fish for the guests aboard Ambush this past weekend. In the box we ended up with a couple bull mahi's up to 44+lbs, 5 wahoo up to 50lbs, 3 yellowfin tuna to 60lbs, 1 ling, 2 big kings - one that was in the mid-50s and completely skyed on a live bait the whole boat got to watch as it flew thru the air with the bait hanging out of his mouth. As for billfish we went 0-1 on blues along a rip that produced all of the wahoo and mahis. The mahi also placed 1st in the Freeport Fishing Fiesta which officially ended on sunday. Another highlight was putting Mr. Famous Amos on the first yellowfin tuna of his life at the awesome age of 77. All in all a very productive and fun trip!

After the ambush trip we visited long time friends and new parents Brian and Amanda in Bryan, TX at their 16 acre homestead along with several other good friends for a little celebrating of life, freedom and the 4th of july.

Hi, we’re Brian and Amanda; a husband and wife team, with the travel bug, writing a cookbook, and homesteading. Brian worked in professional kitchens for ten years in Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, and so on. He eventually became an executive chef and earned a Four Diamond award. Amanda is the wife, mother, and creativity enthusiast. We’ll be posting about the latest projects on the property, recipes for testing, and anything else either of us finds of interest. If you would have told us two years ago we would be living on what we’re now calling a micro-ranch, I’m not sure we would have believed you. Our plot and the surrounding 160 some odd acres used to be owned by the man that opened the Dixie Chicken Inc. (That bar you chugged cheap beer at in college.) There are barns, horse stables, chicken coops, and pastures.We believe in family, living simply, traveling and staying with the locals, home birth and midwifery, experiencing new things, handmade, old-school food, creating, doing things the old-fashioned way (with the help of a laptop and internet access), and thinking outside the proverbial box.
