Puerto Vallarta Fishing Season

Hey guys,

My buddy and I would like to come down to PV in October for marlin & tuna. Which would be better fishing - during a full moon in very early October or during a rising (waxing) moon in late, late October? I was told that the earlier the season, the better, but also told that a full moon is detrimental to pelagic fishing.
Any advice?

I've had a lot of these moon phase questions lately and generally i will say that the bite is USUALLY good leading up to the full moon, that it CAN BE epic during the new moon, and that it is sometimes RICHTER right after the full moon. It literally changes every day, month, week, and year.

The more time i spend out there, the more i realize that while we try to put recognizable patterns to the consistency of the bite, there is really no constant in offshore fishing whatsoever. Well, except for the fact that you need to put a hook in the water to catch them.

I know this answer is probably not the concrete "GO THEN, CATCH THIS!" advice you're looking for - but when you take away all the speculation it's closer to the truth than anything else you're likely going to get.

Focus on the times of year when fish are generally known to pass through the areas you're interested in fishing and book a trip during that time. Unless you have the freedom to jump on a plane at a minutes notice when the bite is HOT, you have to roll the dice and leave the rest up to the fish gods.
