Pending Junior Male Angler IGFA Yellowfin Tuna Record

Greg Brandner and his recently turned 15 year old son Keith came to Puerto Vallarta with one goal in mind, Keith wanted to take a shot at the Junior Male Angler record for Yellow fin Tuna. The Brandner's hail from my old stomping grounds in the North East and when Greg told me that he rewards Keith's straight A performance at school, with a fishing trip of Keith's choice, I was happy to have them visit PV for a shot at the record aboard the Frantic Pace.

It was only day one of a three day trip, when at noon today, a Yellowfin Tuna slammed a Cabellito, goggle eye to you easterners. After a 1 hour and forty-five minute fight, Keith brought the fish to gaff, with full compliance of IGFA rules. The fished taped out to 255 lbs at 72.5 inches and 52 in girth. So we made a direct run from 15 miles NW of El Banco to the scales at Paradise Village Marina. The fished weighed 241.3 lbs and easily surpassed the prior record of 190 lbs 2 oz. Keith will be submitting all of the necessary paperwork to IGFA and hopefully will be awarded the record. Unless of course he manages to surpass that weight over the next two days.

What scale did you weigh the fish on Herk? I weighed a 242 back in 2004 on Paradise Village's Scale but Dick wouldn't let us take it to get it certified! My guess is his scale was over a few pounds, meaning my fish was probably in the 230's, so I would be losing the record to you guys anyways.

Congratulations to you and the angler. Records are made to be broken and you guys should have this one in the bag!

He used our IGFA certified digital scalemaster.

You guys used to have one, i remember Bob giving us one out at the banco from your old Cabo to use one afternoon on a couple of 300#ers that Lora and I caught with the Pelagic boys.

Would have been cool to see your name in the books too Kyle!

That scale was purchased AFTER our inability to get Paradise Village's scale certified. My Dad said never again. Oh well, Herk beat my fish. Looks like I'll have to try for that 400 pound yellowfin to get the record now...HA I'LL KEEP DREAMIN!
