Since my last report we've had a brief stint of rough weather, but it has been super nice to see NOAA finally open up some of our waters off of Lousiana again. Stay tuned for some killer reports in the next few weeks as we are finally able to resume charters for monster October yellowfin.
Anyhow, this past weekend, I fished with my close friend Trip aboard his dad's 45 Bertram, Bodacious. The Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club was hosting an Intraclub Tournament, and we decided to try our luck in the tournament. Our crew consisted of myself, Trip, Trip's dad, and Captain Jeremy, who also brought along his youngest son Tanner for support.
While we were certainly taking this trip seriously, it was a bit of a fun trip as it was Trip's dad's birthday. He has scored a white, sail, sword, spear, all in the gulf of mexico, but the blue marlin has proved elusive for Bo. So our goal was to score him a birthday blue.
We trolled for all of two hours maybe before the center rigger popped and started screaming line. A few seconds later, an angry blue started raising hell on the surface, and Trip and I proceeded to clear the lines so that we could put that big girl in reverse and chase down the blue for Bobo. Not fifteen minutes later, Trip expertly wired the blue, and the day was immediately a success. You know you're gonna have a good day when the first fish of the day is a blue! Not to mention on a 30wide!
Over the rest of the day, we picked at the wahoo (four of them) and also scored a dolphin. Only thing which made the day even better was Alabama losing to South Carolina, and Auburn winning a close one with Kentucky! No, we do not have footage of the blue, because my dumb ass tried fooling with the camera with a gloved hand and well...anyway, botched the video. We finished the day top boat, first place tag and release. Included are a few pics and a youtube video (which I probably can't get to work on this) Also, my partner Hunter ran his first trip since April this past Saturday as well, and had 9 tuna from 70-90 pounds in less than 2 hours. Good to see the tuna are hungry after eating all that crude
Back to Venice Sunday to run a few trips, hopefully will have some good tuna pics/video for you guys next week.
