Hope you don't mind the title steal JT......
We fished Cabo August 28, 29 and 30 on our 43ft Cabo KW'S KARMA. We fished hard every day and were rewarded with some pretty damn good fishing for it.
Saturday the 28th we headed straight to Punta Gorda. There wasn't much life on the bank so we moved out to Destiladeras where we made some bait. We slow trolled it around the area for a short time but conditions didn't look great so we switched to lures and began working the area. With about 7 hours of blue water under us, we trolled back by Gorda and raised a 400 pound blue that ate the long corner like a freight train, then attempted to join us in the cockpit by charging directly at the boat for at least 3 minutes non stop. We managed to stay out of the big girls way and get my buddy a clean (1 blurry photo) release 20 minutes later. The 400 pounder was his first marlin.
On Sunday morning, well, honestly I don't really remember Sunday morning because I arrived to the boat as the crew was arriving. The difference was they were coming from a good nights sleep and I was coming from a good, long night. At about 11 am when I finally surfaced we were outside of the 1150 trolling the 1000 fathom in a school of porpoise. Couldn't entice any tuna (didn't have a kite on the boat) but we ended up releasing a small stripey and a small dorado. In the afternoon around 5:30 we trolled by Gorda again and found it stacked with bait and life. It was late in the day so we just made a couple passes with the lures but we knew exactly where we were going to start Monday morning.
Monday we stuck to our plan and headed straight to Gorda. The bank was still loaded with bait. We made 5 nice skippies in short order and bridled 'em up. It wasn't 10 minutes before the long bait got destroyed by something. After screaming off a couple hundred yards of line the fish jumped for the first time, letting us know it was a black marlin. After a 45 minute fight on a Tiagra 30W with 60 pound test, we released the estimated 650+ pounder. We managed to make 2 more baits after releasing the fish so we slow trolled them until about 1:30, the only action being a small mako eating our biggest bait. We trolled the rest of the afternoon away and picked up a nice 40 pound wahoo in the canyons between Gorda and Destiladeras.
Overall it was a great trip. We didn't have a lot of fish but the few we managed to get were definitely worth the trip!
