After about 3 months in San Diego getting a long list of work done, Karma 3 headed south in mid February. The boat arrived in Golfito, Costa Rica on March 5th and we were fishing Panama by the 7th. We fished 8 days around the Coiba region and spent 95 percent of our time targeting marlin.
In those 8 days we went 5/6 on blues (4 on bait, 1 on lure and missed a fish on a lure) and caught the only small black we ran across also. 3 of blues were good size, pushing or slightly over 400 lbs. The rest of the fish were small, 150-250.
There was some decent dorado around and a couple schools of tuna that had smaller to mid size fish. The water was 85 degrees and a beautiful blue on Hannibal and at Montuosa. Other than those two spots, the water was either too hot or off colored.
