New owner at Sierpe del Pacifico Laura joined some friends and I for a couple days of fishing this past week. The jigging and popping action around Cano Island was pretty good. The almacos and bluefin trevally were particularly cooperative. Both days were cut a bit short due to lost contact lenses (day 1) and some ancillary effects of Costa Rica's famous Ron Centenarrio (day 2)...am sure we could have gotten into a good topwater cubera and rooster bite had we stayed out.
The trevally were running big...this one on a Halco Roosta Popper.
Girl knows how to handle the rod. Is finishing up a doctorate in geo-physics as well!
First of 5 nice almacos for her on the day
Silkies make the best ceviche in my opinion
The Sting-o PBJs have been killing it down here. $10, paint barely chips, componentes are good. Not intended to rig assist style, but it works. Strike to hook-up ratio seems to be the same as a kevlar chord assist rig.
Big trevally number 3 on the day. Released 2 of them.
This ever happen to anybody else. One bonito hits, jig slides through its gills, another one hits and gets hooked up. Pretty sweet.
Pretty nice "rainy season" weather.
One big almaco!
Big Eastern Tackle first drops always get the job done.
I doubt we went more than 7-8 minutes all day without a hook-up. Action was constant all day!
Beautiful morning start of day 2.
Nice gentle run down the river.
Flat calm river mouth.
Good way to start things off
I will never get bored of catching donkeys. We had 2 fish on the day take us to the rocks on 20 lbs. of drag where they proceeded to pop 100 lb. leader. The big broomtails and cuberas are always present.
Probably the highlight on the day...doubled up on a cubera and a neon orange "guakamayo". No photo shopping going on here...these fish are electric!
We were shooting on a very nice camera as well
My buddy here runs a sustainable treehouse community just south of me in the Osa...check it out Welcome to Finca Bellavista
How about the gold reel/hot yellow bikini combo?
One last big trevally to close out the day.
Both days originated from the Sierpe del Pacifico eco-adventure community in sunny southern Costa Rica. Sales are going strong, don't miss out. Lots with ocean access boat slip start at $40K.
