Nice Fish !!!
What depth did you get it at and what was the bait, Man and what are those fishes in the box, scary stuff.
That is a NICE Sword, lots of good steaks there. Like the boat also, what make is that, or custom?
very nice , how about some more details, such as bait time of fight depth, etc and how was dinner
Hey guys,
Fish was caught at dusk using squid. depth was very shallow around 150ft +- total water depth around 1500ft. Night after the full moon. We fished 2 nights with the first night being pretty uneventful. Had a few bites but nothing to speak of. We deep dropped in the day to pass the time then we moved back to deeper water and that's when we hooked into her. 3 hour fight on tiagra 50 stand-up, using a custom rod from Don Savage.
The fish basically gave up her soul as we were leadering her...just like the ocean gave her up to us.
The boat is a custom 42 Don Smith...currently for sale too! This was the last trip on that boat and really happy we were able to knock out a 30yr gulf of mexico record.
The other fish we caught day dropping were golden tile, barrellfish, and hake. Some being pretty ugly but some of the best eating around.
