Well sportsfans, it'd be the greatest understatement of the year if i told you the boys and i ain't up to no good out here. Gaaaaawleeey...we are certainly working on leaving our mark on the Chesapeake.
I have to say that our experience here at Weaver Boatworks could not have gone smoother. Jimmy Weaver and his crew are perhaps the best group of boatbuilders that i've had the pleasure of meeting or building with since i began on this journey many years ago. Their selfless courtesy and genuine kindness only adds to the fact that they are most definitely building one of the best custom boats in the world. Above all else, we are extremely proud to call ourselves the owners and crew of the newest Weaver to come out of Tracy's Landing, and i look forward to working with Jimmy and his crew for many years to come.
Aside from the boatbuilding love that we are enjoying here in MD at the moment, the extracurricular activities certainly haven't been lacking either. The fishing has lived up to it's reputation and in the past three days alone Steve, Benji, Lonnie, Herk, friends, and i have caught and released well over 150 striped bass on all manner of boats - including the new 63.
I mentioned in a previous post that a striper wasn't exactly the kind of gamefish i was hoping for to pop the Salty's piscatorial cherry, but all things considered, i couldn't have asked for a more fitting end to a most invigorating beginning. Taking the Salty out for SteveD's inaugural run yesterday and watching the boss cast out to a frothing mass of stripers, hook a fish, and land it from the bow while 63 feet of sparkling new opulence swaggered behind him - well, if you're like me, than that kind of feeling is worth everything else.
There's a ton of stuff to report on and believe me, i'll get to it. But for now we're tuning up the props and getting prepared to depart on wednesday morning for the next phase of the journey. Suffice it to say, i'll have a lot of writing to do and photos to upload along the way.
Stay tuned amigos, this journey is only beginning - and i'll be damned if we're not already off to one hell of a start.
