After good winter fishing, things are looking REAL promising for another great May and June over here !! The Wahoo bite has been steady the past few weeks and the Yellowfin that all but vanished the last 6 weeks have showed once again.
The Wahoo for the most part have been FAT (9 of yesterday's fish weighed 353# gill gutted). Most fish are in the 30 - 60 lb range w/ a few smaller and a few larger ones mixed in. The largest aboard the 'Wound Up' recently was 78 lb, however Andrew Card caught a 90 lber last week and Cragin and Pete caught a 107lber the week before on Pete's commercial boat.
No shortage of interesting encounters last week....
......
Some got a free ride home ....
A couple did not....
The winter/spring Wahoo here are fiesty, mean fish. One will scream hundreds of yards of line off w/ 22# of drag and tear it up all over the surface... the next nice one will act like a lizard ( sm 'hoo) until it gets close to the boat then the real attitude kicks in...to say there have been some wild ones on the leader and gaff would be a serious understatement !!! Last week we fished 4 days and caught 31 of 32 bites... and did we ever pay for it this week - 4 more days and were 36 for 58...
As we get into May and June the Wahoo, YFT fishing and the weather get much more consistent. Trolling, chumming (chunking ) and live baiting. The trips are down this year compared to the last few, so we're getting pretty creative with the packages and pricing. Airfare from most east coast cities is under $400 and we can find you some sweet accomadations for under $200... If anyone's interested fire me a PM or call me (441 737 9985) between 4:00 am and 8:30 pm Atlantic Standard time.
