2008 will go down as one of Bermuda's best years for
Wahoo fishing. A great combo of quality and quantity.... Forum member 'Lilharcher's' crew bested a 91 lber in early May and a Dion Cullem personally angled 48 of 51 'hoo's (a new Bermuda record) we caught togeather on the 20th. Although the steady Wahoo bite continued right through the end of the year, Blue Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna are the target species for most during the summer months. And like the Wahoo bite, the Blue Marlin's were BIG and plentiful (7 of our first 11 fish were better than 500 lb )...By the end of June, Capt. Allen on 'De Mako' had 3 over 800# under his belt......and by 9:30 am on July 5th he released a fish he called 850#....a day late for the World Cup....won by Hawaii (preventing a Bermuda 4peat). The 'Wound Up's' great Marlin run continued w/ a $49K pay day during the Billfish Blast, followed a few days later w/ 1st time angler, Carie Polaskies 1,049lb fish. The big fish run continued for a few more weeks until Hrricane Bertha rolled thru and the average size of the blues dropped by a few hundred pounds..
The Yellowfin that avoided us in '08 have made a strong showing so far this year. If the weather permits, chances are you'll be in double figures w./ school sized YFT's (20 -50 lbs). Kevin on the 'playmate' had the best catch of the week w/ 25 YFT's , 2 fat Wahoo, a gaffer dolphin and a White marlin release off the kite...
I'm lacking pictures from this years fishing so far, so here are some pics from my Nov fishing trips w/ JT. for those of you that haven't had the pleasure, is a unique experience fishing w/ this one... a colourful personality that has a possitively contagious attitude...and that dangerous combination of being lucky and good........Thank you Josh for a great trip.
