Yes the Grouper(black rockfish) is targeted mainly in the winter month's by slow trolling lures like you see in the picture in shallow areas on the reef line. They are also caught by chumming on the anchor as well.
These fish get to well over 100lbs here. We are only allowed one per boat per day.
The AJ weighed in at 116lbs on 50lb gear. To my knowledge the world record on 50 at the time was 128lbs. I'm not sure if it still is though. My buddy caught a nice 93lber two days ago.
