Well...our baby Ambush finally got a blue and not just one but 2 this past weekend! Been a long time coming and we're all very excited. The weekend was pretty crazy with Ambush running 2 trips after the first ended in a serious medical emergency. A wahoo attacked one of the guys and left a large cut that forced them to turn around and haul-*** back to port the first morning of fishing. Our guy is doing as good as can be expected and will be having surgery tomorrow to re-attach two tendons. No bueno but it couldve been much worse.
After he was dropped off and taken to the hospital, Francisco and Chad got a couple hours of r&r, then Daniel showed up and off they ran to the shelf once again just the 3 of them. Daniel hooked something serious that night when swordfishing as the other guys were crashed out so he ended up fighting the fish 2 hrs alone when finally it spit out the spanish mackerel and came unbottoned. Soon after came first light and out the lures went, by 830am they had a successful release of a NICE blue marlin reviving the fish in reverse after a ballistic show and some hard driving. Shortly after that and coming up to a rip too good to be true out go the lures again and there goes successful release blue marlin #2. Followed by more wahoo and a then NICE bull dolphin. Fishing is on fire in the Gulf of Mexico!
Special thanks go out to Makaira Pulling Lures and Justin Roper, his marlin lures are world class and the only lures bit by all of the fish on this trip.
I joined Capt Brian on a charter saturday/sunday and ended up with a ton of different goodies and fortunately we got to play with some billfish also going 1-3 on sails. We came in with several large tile fish, a few snowy grouper, few yellow edge grouper, some long tail bass, a couple yellowfin tuna, and a boat limit of all kinds of snapper.
Here's a short little clip of the double on sails and some pics from the rest of the weekend:
