Boat: BILLFISHER
Best Catch: I dont ever get to catch anything.
Occupation: damage control
I have run the 43 spencer with IPS and lemme tell ya, its awesome. Most manueverable boat I have ever been on. But, it doesnt seem like the system will work in a really large sportfish with motors larger than a straight 6 because it is alll under the cockpit. But in a 40 to 48 ft game boat it is awesome to drive and is incredibly efficient.

Zeus Drive

The Doral comparison really did not offer a final conclusion.

The Zeus Drive is more maneuverable due to a quicker steering response and the IPS Drive struggles somewhat with Running Trim Angles. The AutoTab feature on Zeus is pretty slick, with a calibrated feature that allows hand-off Trimming. I think at Cruise Speed, there is a very little if any difference between the two. The ability to tuck the Zeus Drive in a Tunnel should give it a draft advantage over IPS.

The Zeus Product will be showcased at the Miami Boat Show, so it should be interesting to see the response. Look for Cabo to bring out the fishing version first, although I have not heard an ETA yet.......

here is a 4 pack in a different type of boat.....straight six (D-6) I believe in a 75 footer. These are the Volvo flavor. If needed ..for some reason...12 knots can be achieved with 2 off and oil pumps on allowing the free wheeling props to turn. Impressive speed and fuel mileage for a 75' coming in @ 35 knots. Looks like plenty of room to service in the pic.

calyber boats is putting them in new 35

ips and zeus are same concept but different tech. ips props are in front and it pulls like airplane zeus is in rear. both are great on fuel and get much better cruising and top end speeds. i believe with ips if wheels and mechanism bolt to the bottom so if grounding the expensive mechanism is still in the boat but with zeus the brain is underneath so more costly repair. jmho

Both the IPS and Zeus "Brains, Gears, etc." are inside the boat. They both have breakaway features on the exterior drive legs

Boat: dream boat, it's all in my head. I just build them for a living, almost.
Home Port: north carolina, inner banks. OR, the wild wild west, port nelson, rum cay, bahamas
Best Catch: I am more into tag and release.
Occupation: Caison Yachts, Chef, hull guy, dummy, fat boy, scapegoat, safety officer, ASSHOLE
we are doing one of each

We at Caison Yachts are in the process of doing a 40' with the I.P.S. and a 49' with the Zuess drives. We used the Volvo pods for the fourty and we built our own tunnel/pods for the zuess.
Pics on my profile or in my albums.
enjoy

Drose, would love to hear how the Zeus drive turns out on that boat. Have not heard of many going with the Zeus drive on a sportfish boat so far. Most getting into the new technology have opted for the IPS since it has some more sportfish friendly modes. I'm sure over time the Zeus will incorporate them as well. Will be interesting to see which performs better in the end.
