Yanmar Vibration
Hey Guys,
At the end of last summer I bought a 1990 27' Phoenix with twin 2004 240hp Yanmar 4LHA-STP 400hrs each with ZF/ZFE 63A Transmissions.
Had hull and motors surveyed.
I have a small vibration on the starboard side and I'm trying to figure out were it is comming from. Of course Yanmar tech didn't pick it up on the sea trial, owner did a good job of disquising it.
The vibration is more noticable during headway speed and less noticable during cruise speed.
The shaft on starboard side has a shinny spot just in front and in back of cutless bearing, dripless shaft seal weeps a tiny bit of water
Port side shaft has same shinny spot but only right behind cutless not in front
I plan to:
pull both props and have them checked out.
check the shafts to make sure they are alighned properly
change all filters, fluids, and zincs
I was hoping some of you might have some info on what else to look for.
Thanks
Rodney

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
before you pull stuff...
take a good look even if it takes your digital camera to make sure the engine mounts are tight and not broken anywhere... you can push sideways on them with your feet also... try to rock the motor... not while it's running...
if you feel comfortable doing so look at your engine while your running and someone responsible drives.. inspect your shaft hatch also..
re-power or re-wire means re-tighten to me..

I'll check out the mounts
