YamaMerc 225 question....

Hey all. I'm looking at a boat that has one of the Yamaha built Mercury 225 fourstroke's on it. Engine says it was built in '06, so it's either an '06 or '07, not sure if it matters. Anyhoo, my question is this.... how much is interchangeable between Mercury and Yamaha on this engine? I'm mostly concerned with the controls and guages. I've never been a big fan of Mercury controls (aside from the DTS). And also would love if I could hook up either Smartcraft gauges or the Yamaha Engine Management ones. I want to be able to have the fuel/mpg stuff without having to go aftermarket.
Anyone know the answers to these questions? Thanks!

we have them!!!

the engines are from yamaha the cowlings are from merc.. the wiring is analog so no yama gauges will work you can get morse 33 cable ends to reconfigure any binical you want.. the motors are still 4 stroke yamas no matter how ya shake it though ... merc just made the plug in to configure to merc stuff the engine is coated twice so protection is there

thanks for the reply. curiously, i've had others tell me that the Yamaha gauges will work fine. Some have said that they have the exact engine hooked up to Yamaha fuel management gauges and everything. interesting. i guess i'd just have to wait and see.
