    yamaha vs suzuki

I am looking at a carolina skiff, 218 or 238 DLV. And some dealers are putting on a Suzuki 115 or 140 While other dealers are putting on Yamahas 115 or 150. What are the differences in the Yamahas vs Suzuki?
pros and cons of each would be great..
what about maintenance on both of them?

    Thanks for any information.

The next bite on a jig.
Although Yami 4 strokes have a big following, I think Suzuki is cutting away a small piece of the market as more and more people spend time with them. The suzukis are wonderfully quite and clean, even compared to the yami 4's. I have spent time with each and today I would probably look at the suzuki first and yami second.

Can't go wrong with Suzuki, I have owned 6 in the last 5 years. Never had a problem.

I'm sure that you would be happy with either. As I have no experience with either engine, I will answer your question with... a question.

Does your local dealer service both? Does your mechanic have a recommendation? If it were me, assuming everything else being equal, I would make my decision on the ease/convenience of service. Also, are there other reputable service shops convenient to you, just in case?

    Good luck,
    David

I've been running a Suzuki 140 for 4 years and haven't had any problems. I would buy another one in a heart beat. Not to mention the Suzuki is less money.

I compared the two when I repowered my Sea Vee, I spoke with several commercial fisherman that used the Suzukis, most had several thousand hours on them and were pleased with the engines. I have a yamaha on my skifff and I had never had a problem with it either. It all came down to price for me with the Suzukis being well below the yamahas installed. Pound for pound i think the suzukis are the best buy for the buck.

I have an 03 140 suzuki and I love it. I have 350 hours on it and haven't had a problem with it yet. They are extremely quiet at idol and low rpm's but I think when you compare it to the yamaha at cruise, the yamaha might be a little more quiet. Both are great engines. The maintenance I would imagine is the same, service after the first 20 and every 100 there after. I make sure to fresh water flush after every use and check the oil every 25 hours. Other than the basic winterizing, thats all you should need. Either way you can't go wrong. Good luck.

    OK, my 2 cents...
Both make the best 115 four strokes on the market. Now which to get...Yammas do have more service areas that Sukes, big plus. Sukes price point are much better, big plus.
Maintance is about the same on both motors, change oil and plugs. Bigest thing to watch for is the motor "makeing oil". Normaly, this comes from the motor not being able to get to temp. and gas passing the rings. Useaely this comes from the thermostats getting stuck open from sand. Replacing or cleaning the thermostats I think is a little easer on the Suke that the Yamma.
Now the Ferry services on Harkers Island all use the Suks. Why, Better fuel and ease of maintance is what they have told me. Some of the 115s that they use have 9 to 10,000 hours on them.
With all that being said, the Suke has my vote...
    MirrOlure when big fish count!
