Yamaha F150 Speed Not Reading??

Running '05 Yamaha F150's.. (4-Stroke)

Not sure what happened to the speed reading but it always shows a "-" or a "6" even at 45mph

I dont know really how to work on the motors myself ( I have assistance) but if I can get a list of possible problems, that would be wonderful

Look on the front edge of the lower unit, above the gear case and there should be a very small hole, take a piece of mono that will barely fit and see if there is a blockage. If not the rubber hose leading to the dash speedometer, the hose may be pinched or has a hole in it. If you have the Yamaha digital gauges, they still get their pressure off of the same pickup. I'm pretty sure its the trash in the pickup that is causing the bad reading.

If running Yamaha gauges, check the plug in on the front of the engine, below the fuel filter, contacts maybe dirty or loose.
