    Is it wrong to ask?

So you drop your boat off for seasonal maintenance and provide a written request for specific work to be performed. Your request clearly outlines that an estimate should be provided for ALL repairs BEFORE the boat is hauled and ANY work performed.

You never receive estimate, nor notice that your boat was hauled. Props are reconditioned, but no report to show if / how far they were out. About the only communication you receive from the yard over the past month is a fax invoice with a total of $6K+ for time and materials. The invoice is vague and non-descriptive. You were expecting a $4K - $4500 bill.

So are you a jerk for asking the yard to provide a more detailed outline of work performed and materials used?

I'm not going to throw them under the bus at this point. I think they did great work; just let me down at first on providing me with a thorough understanding of what was actually completed...

It is wrong of them to not detail their work progress to you.

a list of parts and work performed is a good thing in 2010..

we have digital cameras, email and a telephone that even takes pics.. get every bill itemized on any work order and state what you want done before people do it! communication is very important! your wife will want to know what the hell you spent $ like that on... so should you!

my wife, my kids, my practice.
You have every right to ask for a detailed list of work done and next time have the shop take pictures of each invoiced service so you have documentation that the work was actually done. Sometimes all the work claimed doesn't actually get done, and you end up paying for imaginary work.

I too would be interested what yard did the work?

No detailed invoice....no before/after balance report.....no check....period. Every yard keeps track of parts used on specific jobs. Otherwise how would they know what to charge??

    Something's fishy.......

I would be talking directly with the marina owner...not the yard or maintenance manager.
