It’s amazing the different cultures in boating. Out here on the West coast, a trip engine CC is a rare bird indeed, and if you did buy one, you would never resell a boat with trips, people just don’t accept them. In S. Florida, they laugh at you unless you have at least 3 engines, 4 preferred it seems.
Regarding the Venture 34’, I have friend with one running twin Yamaha 225’s. I’ve been on it, it runs just fine and he is happy with the performance. Tops out around 40-42, with decent economy at a 26 mph cruise.
I also do not get this sentiment that you have to 3 engines “in case one goes out”. A run to the Cortez Bank out here is 100 miles one way, if I lost an engine I guess I’d come back in a 8-10 kts on my boat. If it happened once, I’d get a spare set of props as suggested earlier, if it happened twice I’d get a new brand of engine.
I think the twin 350 Yamaha’s would be the perfect match for the 34’ Venture. Not knocking trips, they’re just not for me.
