Would you like less smoke, less soot and better fuel economy from your diesels?

    How does it work?

To understand how the Fuel Tech or FTC magnetic fuel conditioner affects fuel we must first define the problem. What most people refer to, as “algae” in diesel fuel is also known as mud, sludge, crud, and many other terms. The term algae is a misnomer adopted many years ago due to a lack of information. It was a simple assumption due to the greenish black color and the slimy texture, also the knowledge of water in the tank bottom. But the person who made this assumption over looked one very important component needed by all plant life was missing from the mix, sunlight without it there is no photosynthesis therefore no algae.

To understand what happens to diesel fuel as it ages we must first understand the refining process. Crude oil is heated to levels, which cause the molecules to break apart, and travel through a cooling and or a condensing unit, which causes the gases to stratify in to different levels of fuel. These fuels are then drawn off and sent to specific storage tanks. Because we need more fuel today than in the past chemicals and further measures are used to crack the fuel in order to extract more fuel from the available crude oil. These fuels are much more unstable and the molecules try to bond back together forming solids. This process is known as the re-polymerization of middle distillates, and starts occurring as quickly as 28-30 days after refinement. What holds these molecules together in these clusters is known as Van der Waals forces, which is a weak ionic bond.

These solids can be easily broken apart through the use of chemistry or the use of physics. The problem with the use of chemicals is what is currently being used is not geared to breaking this bond, but bio-cides which are used to kill a microbe which lives in the tank bottom. The microbe is sub-micron and dead or alive is too small to clog the filters. When chemicals (surfactants) are used which do cause these chemicals to break apart it causes many other problems. The chemicals cause the solids, which have formed on the tank surface to release from the surface and dissolve into the fuel. The problem being these solids, which have accumulated over the years, are too great and the fuel reaches a point of saturation, which prevents the solids from dissolving, the result is the clogging of many many filters. The other problems with the use of chemicals are they have to be used continually; they are expensive, and bad for the environment.

Through the use of simple physics these solids can be broken down into much smaller particles, which can then be consumed in the combustion chamber. The process of inductive energy is very simple to understand, the motion of fuel molecules through a magnetic field induces energy in to the molecules exciting or energizing the electrons which release there bond on each other and the clusters break apart and go back into solution.

send me a set to try out in 3/4 fuel line. I'll let you know if they work better than my cow magnets.

    THE WHAT?

    the re-polymerization of middle distillates....

I WISH I HAD TAKEN DIESEL MECHANICS IN SCHOOL INSTEAD OF FRENCH....LA FRANCAISE CLASSES WERE LOADED WITH HOT CHICKS....AND THE DIESEL CLASSES, WELL....YOU KNOW THE DEAL THERE.

WOULD LOVE TO HERE SOME MORE EDUCATED THOUGHTS ON THIS PRODUCT...

    WELCOME ABOARD FUEL TECH !!!!!

While I do agree with the ability of the magnets to do the job, they don't, however, do anything to replinish the lack of lubrication in todays ULSD fuels (ultra low sulphur diesel) or to dispurse water that will naturaly collect in your tank and ultimately go through your system.
When the sulphur was removed for the good of the enviroment, there went your lubrication for your fuel pump and other working parts like the upper cylinder walls and rings and injectors.

Do yourself and your powerplant a favor and get a fuel additive that states it improves the lubricity in your fuel along with boosting the cetane (the same as octane in gas) and you will be way ahead of the game and the mechanic that will be paying you a visit sooner or later if you do not.

Give this site a visit www.schaefferoil.com and click on fuel additives. If nothing else, you will learn a little more about fuel, gas and diesel.

    Good luck.

    capt troy...

great post about cetane and lube. another thing to look at is what fuel conditioner or additive the fuel co. of your choice is already putting in the fuel you buy...

    Quest,
I agree, if you have one you trust It does make it much easier, but I just do it myself cause that way I know and don't have to worry and wonder, did the guy dumping the treat in figure the ratio or did he even remember to do it ?

It's cheaper buying it myself too. Either way is fine as long as you are treating it because it really does need it.

    Good luck,
    Troy
