Windlass help 43 egg harbor
Anyone ever run into this?
I have a Sprint 1000 Vertical windless on a 43 SF egg harbor with 15 ft of chain and 9 1/6 rode, (the Mfg specs) the rode locks up and keep trashing the fleeming in the Windlass unit, causing me to keep getting this unit repaired everytime. The MFG states that it is because I am not tying off my anchor causing the flemming to break and the windless to Jam, In a 40 footer or above do you tie off your anchor ever time? Even when fishing in 15ft of water. I just don,t see captains tying off there anchors every tme in our area. Any one ever run into this? |

I have a 44 Ocean and I ALWAYS tie the anchor line off on the front cleats when anchoring....it relieves the pressure off the windlass mechanical parts....my boat is a 1989 vintage with the original windlass and no repairs over the lkast three years since I've owned the boat ....

windless 43 egg.
Thanks for the input, It sounds like user error, user being me.
I guess I need a combo of tying off and bumping forward to releave the pressuse off the anchor line. this is my third fleeming, So I guess the weight of the bout is the big issue. thanks ![]() |
