When This Happens???
Got a little side situation going here... Had the cockpit freezer repaired last year in February. Didn't care for the guys they sent. Spent way too much time jaw flappin. Walking out to his truck to get a smoke or sip of water... Milking it... Also had the distinct impression that he really didn't know what the hell he was doing.
Got through the Bahamas and it took a shit again in May... They sent a different crew who all agreed that the first guy screwed the pooch the first time. They fixed it and it went good til I tried to fire it up a few days ago. Runs but wouldn't get cold.
Called em up. They appologized and set up an appointment to fix.
Well they sent the first dolt back to fix it. Again with the milking of time and real shitty attitude. Blamed this and that before testing. Found a small freon leak due to an "O" ring at a hard to get at connection. "You need a new unit" ($$$$$!!!!!)
I need a new unit because he's too f*****g lazy or not nimble enough to change a connection? He stuffed a fresh charge of freon, evacuated the lines and lit it up. For now it runs cold... BUT IT AIN"T FIXED!!! WTF???
So what do I do now? Run it til it quits again? Call his company back up and rim them a new one? How would you handle it?

If Ignorance is bliss, Why aren't more people happy?
If you "just live with it", chances are that it will go out on you when you are in the wilds of New Jersey

I recently had a similar issue with a genset - kept crapping out on me, and every time the "certified" tech came by, it was another $300... After the 3rd time I went to the shop to speak with the service manager and gave him a respectful piece of my mind.
My opening question was "Do you think I want to shell out $300 everytime I fire up my genset? I don't really care how hard it is to fix, I want it fixed right - Did I ever ask you to save me some bucks, or did I ask you to fix the genset?"
In my case, they did refund the last bogus $300 repair I had spent and fixed it right (I think)

Crab mustard is good
Call the boss and make your case like a reasonable gentleman. You would be surprised how far you can get with manners as opposed to popping a cork like a screwball. Most business owners in service businesses want to provide good service. If that doesn't work, you move on to the next service provider. I do understand your frustration. I hate watching a guy that you know just doesn't understand the problem and is bluffing only to hand you a bill for on the job training.

My first post but I've been reading this forum for a while and have gained a lot from it.
On to your question. I get irritated just reading about the problem your having because I've BTDT. (it motivated me to make my first post)
Did he charge you for the refill? Or was this a goodwill fix being that he and the second guy didn't fix it correctly?
Either way it sounds as if you've been very reasonable with this company so at this point I'd be calling the company and asking for someone with authority (owner/manager perhaps) and telling them how this guy appears incompetent and what your expectations are of their service call. Telling you to buy a new unit when you have a $0.25 cent o-ring leaking is unacceptable. So what if it's hard to get at. This is what they do for a living for goodness sake! I just love it when I call a "professional" to handle a job and they know less about how to fix it than I do.
This type of problem really strikes a chord with me as I totally understand your frustration.

He was the tech on the first fix. I know for fact he missed a lot of the problem as the second guy(s) showed me that he had put in the wrong type check valve at the box end. I had faith in the second guys but I'm guessing that both teams missed this o-ring.
This guy was already on my "don't use list". He was the one who installed my watermaker... First issue there was that he plumbed it into the holding tank instead of the fresh water tank...
My last yard trip I lso got to see that he ran screws through the hul right into the water. I had to grind them down and do some glass work to correct that.
I'm burned that he didn't even try to fix it today. If he can't bend that way, call the office and send somebody that can...
Wise advice from above... I appre4ciate it... They didn't charge me for the second visit and not sure about today so I will tiptoe gently with them.
