    What would you rather: 2005 Yami F225 with 175 hours or a 2006 F250 with 600 hours?

I'm looking at possibly buying a used CC and there are two for sale out there that i've recently been eye ballin. The Hulls are identical and the motors are both F series Yamaha Four Strokes.
The 2005 has 175 hours on it and the 2006 has 600 hours. Both owners have stated they motors run flawless and have all the service records, etc, etc.

I've talked to some guys that think the motor with 600 hours is a "safer bet" than the one with only 175 hours in 6 years of use.

What are your thoughts on this?
    thanks,
    jhw

Both motors will give you thousands of hours of use , there is nothing set in stone as to exact hours but all four strokes should last up to 1800-3000k before a major repair is needed providing the upkeep and love was there.

Personally I would go with the F250's

Also the boat make would make or break my decision on to which one, some times its over power and under power.

For resale the f250s are more desireable as people think since they are newer than the 225s that there may be something wrong with the 225s but that is not the case by any means.

    Thanks L2!

The hull in question is a Sea hunt 232 CC. I'm leaning towards the 250 with 600 hours as it's been well maintained and run frequently. 175 hours in 6 years scares me a bit. That a lot of idle time (pun NOT intended).

I like the 175hours better than the 600 most engines if they are a turd have their fatal problems within the 1st 25-50 hours some even 10.

Based on the size of the boat, either power will be fine , it now comes down to hours, maintenance, and personal preference. Both motors have been bullet proof.

With the higher hours you start getting in to more expensive service intrevals I will see if I can find the break down on 4-storke maintenace requirements.

The reason for these requirments is Yamaha Mercury Honda, point out any and all servicable items that could ever fail thus giving them an out if there is ever a question of abuse and neglect vs warranty failure.

BUT there is some important items I would not skip on this list of yamahas and I believe that every owners manual out there has this chart in it

    Hope this helps

No problem let us know how you make out. Just make sure you get the compression tests done on the motors during a survey. It is a small boat and a survey is so worth the money!!

Also good rule of thumb when you aquire a pre-owned boat dont trust that all the maintenance and service was done start over. Gear oil especially , when they do compression check ask they to drain some of the lower unit oil in to a clear container and make sure there is no water in the lowers

the F225 is only producing 207hp , the F250 is producing 250hp . Also , there are a lot of 2002, 2003 exhausts rotting on the 225's causing headaches. I have owned both and the 250 is really an awesome motor, one of their best
