What is intake corrosion?
Buddy of mine just got a boat from his dad-in-law. He was told the engine runs but is inoperable due to intake corrosion. Its an 1991 Outboard OMC Seadrive 225hp. What the hell is intake corrosion? Is it as simple as replacing a few parts or is the motor junk? Please help if I get this running I can fish off his and I can wait till fall when everyones unloading their boats before I buy.....

I've heard of intake corrosion on some aluminum or galvanized fuel tanks, where the problem was with the outlet from the tank.Maybe?

Not sure I havent looked at it yet and Im not real familiar with outboards were just going by what the mechanic told his Grandad. I was thinking somwhere along the water intake or maybe the intake for the engine(seems unlikely)?

It's funny, you posted this question literally 5 minutes after I got off the phone with a buddy who just told me about it.According to him, older galvanized and aluminum tanks sometimes develop a problem where the fuel line comes OUT of the tank. However he used the term INTAKE CORROSION.The best suggestion I could make is to hook up one of those red plastic 6 gallon gas cans to the outboard and see how it performs.Good luck.Bobby.

Why doesn't your buddy just ask his father-in-law what he means by the statement?
