No they aren't coarse wood threads. It's not meant to screw into the deck. You put it in through a hole the deck/gunnels and secure it with a nut and washer/lock washer.

It's gonna hold turnbuckles to the gunnels of my boat that will hold down a removeable bow platform.

It looks loike a collar nut. Kind of a nut with a built in fender washer.
