What to do with my current boat

My current offshore rig is a 27 phoenix 1982 with 2003 crusader captain's choice 350 mpis. She has electronics from 2004 that were top of the line and some other good features like 340 gallon fuel capacity, autopilot, etc. I have had her for 2 seasons and really like the boat but I know that something bigger is in the future-most likely a 32 blackfin. Trying to decide whether or not to do a resto-completely rewire(after 26 years there is some mess but not to bad), modify the tower and redo the hull. Just trying to get some opinions. Figure some of it would help when i go to sell her. Have even considered repower to diesel. thanks

clean her up and list it...

a set of yanmar 230's would be great but what you put in you'll never get back.

Agreed. I finally sold the Grady and only got about 1/3 of what I had in it. I wrote the hull off as no value because it was an 85. Even so, what I got almost didn't cover the value of the motors and trailer. Oh well.

That would be a sweet package, probably keep my cruise speed and get close to 2 mpg. I looked into 250hp iveco's and it would be 58k for everything done by the installer. i would do some myself but in the end lose so much. She is a good rig but don't know if i can see myself keeping her for 10 years. the former owner had her for 14.

    from what i see...
right now,it's a buyer's market...only problem is,if you've got a boat,it's not worth much...if i were you,i would correct the wiring problems and run it the way it is,but that's me...those engines, you should be doing real well as far as fuel economy is concerned...

you're stating "resto" and "redo hull",exactly what are the problems ?? the tower ?? well...that's a little much on that rig...those old school rigs like your's were a great package, ride's nice, good space, what more can you ask for ???
    the electronics,they work,right ??again,where's the problem ??
just 'cause something's old, doesn't mean it's no good-remember that...looks like you gotta real nice rig to me...

    Thanks jim

she is a good rig, wish they built like these boats today. The crusaders are great engines, best option i think if you go gas. Inregards to redo on the hull i wanted to have it awlgripped to a light blue or yellow, fix the imperfections. The wiring is first on the list. Everything works now but i want to set the system up correctly-banked system with all heat shrinks wiring in conduit. I enjoy the work, redid my mako 20 last year. You take something out of it when its your hands doing the work.

There's a sweet Pheonix at my marina that was converted to Yanmars and a nice job at that. I think the owner got a couple years of limited use but he really cared for her and it show. I know he'll take a beating given market conditions.

Sounds like you also like to putter and work on your girl and that's great but do it for all the right reasons because the market simply will not support your efforts and expenditures when all is said and done.

Looks and sounds like you have a great ride. A bit of TLC (call it therapy) and your good to go. Want more range and a hell of a lot more boat...then charter someone with that equipment. Someone else's boat is the cheapest baot you'll ever fish ot of. I say this not to diminish your efforts or goals but out of market conditions as a broker.

Love the one your with and rent the one you lust for. It's less heart breaking in the end

    Best of luck

Doing a repower would not be cost effective but i figure rewiring it myself and doing the hull will help sell her if and when cause it will make her stand out. She is the fastest inboard phoenix 27 that i know of with 330hp crusaders and gets decent economy.
