What is a "Carolina" boat?

The Agitator in the pic is a Heritage.

Island Boat Works here in Frisco builds a very distinct looking boat that has flare the whole way, no tumble home, more of a Florida look really.

they are great boats, ride great, built very well, I worked there a couple of years and Buddy, Dorris and Joe taught me alot, as well as giving me a job when I needed one.

they are cold molded.

I helped build a couple of the 57's while I was there (excaliber, don't know what it is called now and Delta Dawn) and Helped start the 62' Lisa K.

Buddy and Dorris Smith have both passed in recent years and Joe is still at the shop.

He currently has a 57' hull that is sitting there ready for a new owner.

Would you consider this a Carolina?

I've always liked the lines of these. "Citation" and "Outlaw" are two in the Hatteras fleet that look great in my opinion. Are these strip boats? Oh yeah, "Jester" is one of my all time favorite boats.

Island boat works builds a boat with basicly a jim smith bottom and light weight construction and style of jim smith then anyone in carolina? Except!!!!!!!! It is the only sport fish boat I know of being built on hatteras Island? Opps I stand corected? I thing a relative of mr foster is building a center console carolina boat directly accross 12 from teaches lair. Now to throw this into the mix? Mark willis who I think is originally from harkers island left the partnership of island boat works and moved to FL. where he formerly worked for jim smith? So if hes from harkers island boat building lineage and building very beautriful Sport fish boats in FL. under the name Willis Marine ? Are the NC style boats or FL. style boats? If you have seen his small flats style boat he sells a kit to. It looks very very carolina???

This one is in the eye of the beholder...You posted a picture of a 36' Jeresy Devil/cape with is a molded fiberglass boat...

Tough call - its got the lines topside that are synonymous with carolina lines, however, its bottom, aside from the very front is relatively flat. It does not carry that vee as far aft as most "carolina" boats

Id call this one a "hybrid"

Per the CORE SOUND WATERFOWL MUSEUM.....they credit BRADY LEWIS as the father of the Carolina Flare. In fact an old sink netter, the Jean Dale I believe is the boat they claim to be the first of that style. Its there at the Museum on display.

I knew it was there one day I rode by but didnt know they were having trouble raising cash to restore her. Now theres a worthy cause for a donation. With all the old time builders on Harkers, I would have thought getting the best help would have been easy. Thanks for the Link.
