West System G Flex
I have several loose (leaking) rivets on my aluminum jon boat. The new West System G flex would appear to be a good product to repair and seal these rivets.
Any experience from anyone? If so, I wonder which g flex product to use-- I'm thinking 655-k http://www.gougeonbrothers.com/G-flex/ Last edited by Glenn W; 03-20-2008 at 09:02 PM. |

Glen, best thing I have ever found is PC7 for this. On the bottom og your boat, take a wire brush on an elect. drill and brighten up the area around the rivets, mix the 2 parts of the PC7 and apply. Let sit for 5 mins and take finger wiht spit on it and smooth matrial you applyed. Works like a charm and lasts forever. Will repair holes up to 3/4 of an inch...give me a call about it...BTW you have seen the Neihigh bottles woth the golf ball, wood and other stuff glued to it, yep, thats it...

Yea, Thanks Lee. I've used PC& for years--- good stuff alright. I was just thinking this new stuff (G flex) from West System might be even better in this application since it is designed to "flex". I'm making too much out of this I know--- It's a silly leaking rivet problem-- plug em up best you can, cut a clorox bottle for a bailing jug to use twice a day and be done with it.

Gluv-it does the same thing Moon-Bat.
A bunch of driftboat guys use it out west. Both aluminum and glass. I have it on the bottom of my scull boat and after two years it seems to be holding up well w/ no cracks or issues. -D

Bed liner
The line-X guy was at the boat show in Richmond Va a couple of years ago with a jon boat he had sealed with spray liner on the bottom. I did not see it float but it looked cool.

I had a bolt rust through in my boat and used an "aluminum putty stick" That stuff is amazing no leaks at all and I used it to fill in a 1/2 inch hole in my console with no backing and within 20 minutes it was as hard as a rock. I think it would be good insurance for anybody with a jon boat incase you knock a hole in it.

Glenn,
Have you considered an aluminum brazing rod and a torch? It should take care of the issue. I have a couple of extra brazing sticks and can mail them to you if you want. |
