Lightbulb Wellcraft Coastal 232 Remote control Installation and steering options help?

Just purchased a Yamaha T9.9 High Thrust Aux motor with electric start, power tilt and a 703 Remote side mount Control unit.I was hoping to install the unit on what I think is a suitable flat surface right above the storage box lid right behind my right shoulder (while in the helm seat).See attached pic which in my opinion would give me the advantage of having access to the throttle/shift while in the helm seat as well as from the cockpit area.

Has anyone installed such a unit on a 2006 Wellcraft 232 Coastal?

New boat so I don't know the structure and access to the rear for the shift and throttle cables. Want to make sure the cables are installed correctly so they won't pinch over time when the aux is in tilt position.

Also looking for help in which is the best means of helm steering?
The main is a F250 Yamaha and there is about 14" between the main and aux when placed on the aux bracket. The aux is also set back from the main about 8 ".I would prefer something mechanical connecting the main to the aux. Remote (electrical) manouvering to me seems like it's got trouble written all over it.

Thanks in advance for any support that can be provided.

Hey Jim there is access but be prepared to cut the crap out of your hands

There is chase tubes and access areas on both sides under the gunnels and where your rear facing seats are behind the helm chairs should possibly have access ports drilled to the outboard sides already or you can do that as well.

Also the area below the shifter and such that wall there should have a plastic or fiberglass insert installed that is removable where you can pull it all through

Problem I see is that you are going to have to install the main part of the unit on the port side transom so running the wires up and across may be a bit of a pain but probably could run them along the transom to strb and then up the strb side to the control area.

There is tubes going up both sides of each gunnel and installing pie plates anywhere under the gunnels on that side is possible just be careful where you drill so you don't clip a wire that is going through there.

I can use an art program to show you where the wires would run.

Also if you have a black owners manual or the black owners bag that has the manual in it it has wiring diagrams in the back of the book.

I know robert stewart is no longer with wellcraft and he was awesome and would email you whatever you would need. Give a call down to Wellcraft and be sure to have the hull id handy and they most likely would be VERY helpful as well.

Wellcraft used to have their owners manuals on the website but the links are not working

You should be able to purchase or find a owners manual at one of the dealers

I attached the wiring color chart and your model year boat it should apply to wellcraft has used common colors forever just not sure on the 2008 and newer boats

Please be sure to double check with wellcraft

Also I attached the PIG spec sheet on the boat (product info sheet) just basic info for you on the boat

BE VERY CAREFUL removing Control box should just unbolt but without seeing it I can't say for sure if you have to remove the outside cover OMG becareful its like a jack in the box and springs could fly everywhere

Do you have any pics of the transom area??

Here is my mock up picture with access

You can remove the speaker or it may be a pie plate

You can remove the tackle storage boxes becareful reinstalling it the screw holes break easy

    Then the Yamaha Control box

that step there to the walkup around you can put an pie plate/inspection plate just becareful if there is a pump out or fuel fill on that side you can also put in under the gunnel somewhere again be careful where you drill

I can't thankyou enough Lady Luck. This information is exactly what I was hoping to see.Exceptional and very much appreciated.

I will contact Wellcraft as recommended. Would be real nice if I could bring the cables up the starboard and then over to the helm on the port side. Would eliminate any potential pinching at the stern.
Before I just start drilling I will review what I can to make sure this all makes sense.
The helm F250 control is a flush mount so I have no idea as to what to expect underneath the unit.

The stern bilge area is fairly open but there is a gate on the port side for access to the boat.
Will send a picture once I get back to the boat.

Are you looking to set it up on the helm section behind the steering wheel??

If so then when you go in to the cabin as soon as you go down to the right on the strb side on the backside of the helm is a carpeted removable panel

I wouldn't remove the gauge panel they tend to chip and peel alot and they are like 300-400 bucks new and probably no longer made or special order

But the carpeted panel should have 6-8 screws in it and give you full access

The only problem you may have with putting on the dash is the dash panel that I mentioned above is carbon fiber or similar material and not a good idea to cut..

Try to email them 1st the probably would be the fastest response and best response and again be sure to include your hull # because thats the 1st thing they are going to ask you for

I worked as a service manager for a wellcraft dealer for 5 years and I am more than versed in the area of the boats..

I "may" have an owners manual here in box if it would help.
