Weight of 21' Contender
Hello everyone. Next winter I am planning on purchasing my first boat, a 21' Contender with 250 horse yamaha. My main question is, for those with experience, about how much will this boat weigh with an average weight trailer and fully fueled? The Contender webpage says 3500lbs "ready to fish" so I'm thinking probably around 4500lbs all said an done, no?
My main problem, other than not having enough cash to buy a boat and a new diesel truck to pull a boat and 10tons of shit, would be the truck that I have now. I have a Toyota Tacoma and it can't tow much. Factory rating is 3500 lbs but I have added airbags and have a higher gear ratio so towing 4-5k lbs shouldn't be completely out of the picture for short drives. Will the boat equiped on trailer and fueled be around or under 4500lbs? Thanks for the help guys.

For short distances the Tacoma if it's a V6 will handle it but... Stopping it will be different story. I use to pull the 20ft. Sea Hunt I had with my old Tacoma w/ 4cyl. pretty easy at approx. 3200 lbs.loaded but we had a car pull out in front of us and came with in a foot of major hurt. Went the next day and traded her for a full size GMC. Light weight truck will get jack knifed by a big load. Get a tandem axle with surge brakes, several friends say they can actually slow down towing faster then not. The brakes are pretty good if you keep them washed good after every trip, consider upgrading the brakes to Stainless hardware it'll be money well spent! Good Luck!
