You may want to try removing the first line with the column headers. I know some import programs don't like them.

    A couple of tips..

The PC software may or may not handle the header in the first row. Better to delete it.

You will need to enter an ID somehow for each of these waypoints. The ID field is typically 6-8 characters long. This is in addition to the comments field which can handle more characters.

You probably need to remove the whitespace between the degrees, minutes and seconds.

For example, I use a program called GPS Utility. It can import text files, if they are in the correct format.

I took your first waypoint and created the following in a text file:

    F ID---- Latitude Longitude Comment
    W,Test#1,N34d36.348m,W77d05.508m,A-Buoy

The first line, with the F, specifies the format for the rest of the lines. It shows an ID field with a max of 6 characters (based on the dashes), Lat, Lon, and comment.

Each following line should start with a W for waypoint, then the ID field, Lat/Lon and comment.

Most of these programs can handle the various lat/lon formats, if you use the right characters to differentiate between the deg/min/sec. I think just using spaces is going to be a problem, but it would depend on the application you are using.

    Good luck!

    Exactly!!

The key is to know the format that the text file needs to be in, so the best way is to export a text file from the program and match the input format to what it produces. Once you knw the format its just a matter of tweeking the excell file to meet the format and save the excell file as a text file for importing into your gps program.

    Database format

If the numbers are the popular ones - big rock NW places etc, there is a download on the garmin website that is in the correct format. I cannot find the link but I had seen it in a thread somewhere (sorry I am not remembering where just yet). This may cover you unless you have a bunch of your own numbers.

I found a link that had 380 waypoints already converted to the Garmin format
and I merged it with the one I already had.
