thanks guys, the dytec is what I was really wanting but i guess that might not happen... I guess its time to shell out a pile bucks for the furuno.

If you have other Furuno electronics that will take a temp input then your results is just as accurate as using an RD30. The RD30 is not specifically a temp indicator, it's a digital organizer that will take any NMEA input. Have a Furuno sounder or Navnet radar or plotter? Can get stand-alone temp sensor and connect it to them.

yea i have a furuno 667 sounder with temp & speed/thru hull transducer. the temp readings have grown a mind of there own... 10-15 degree/mood swings. does no good to calibrate it, so at a minimum I'm still looking at replacing the whole transducer. stopped by the auto store & picked up a point and shoot IR thermometer so at least i'll know what temp i'm in, but finding the breaks will still be a pain. O well, i'll have the boat pulled back out end of Jan. & go to work on it.

I just put a raymarine in last season and its cheap and works great

its a speed sensor with a little display just like the rd 30

I cant remember what the number is on the unit but has the speed/temp transducer and the display for less than $200.
I can also use it for a max and average speed aswell as a trip log and water temp.
