Water Pump Volvo Penta gas
I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem. I was helping a friend this weekend and we were going to replace a waterpump on one of his engines but we are having problems getting old one off. He has a 1987 Volvo Penta 350 hp gas motor model AQ271A and it has a johnson waterpump. Is there some sort of special tool needed to get the pump off the shaft. I unbolted the pump from the suport bracket, removed front plate along with washer and impellor. I assume there is a snap ring or something that we can't see that is keeping us from pulling it off the shaft. Any advice would be appreciated.

if its crank mounted you should see 3 allen bolts holding it to the crank

Thanks Rugman. it is crank mounted but someone evidently replaced the allen bolts with hex bolts. ended up grinding a socket down so it would fit on the head.
