vm or cummins blocks on cummins/mercruiser merge?
I`ve been looking to buy a bigger boat and I ran into a couple of 4.2L mercruiser series (black), 6 cyl 2006 diesel engines. Does anyone know for a fact if these engine blocks are cummins blocks or they are the old VM 6 cyl blocks??? they came with a mercruiser/cummins catalogue but they look very similar to those VM`s. Can anyone help with this?? are they still VM blocks?? which ones are really cummins block/engines??
thanks

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
arrivi,
They are VM engine's. When Cummin's and Mercruiser merged, those engines came under the blanket of Cummins/Mercruiser. From the B Series and up, those are true Cummins engines we have all come to know. I don't know the HP range of the engines (4.2's) you are looking at, but I personally have seen very little problem with the old 200hp mechanical engines. These engines now are electrnic ,common rail engines like most of the rest. Frank

thanks for your quick response, they are in fact 6 cyl. and supposed to be 285 hp, but as far as the common rail, I did not see anything on the like, but it is good to know that they are VM . Now, would you happen to know if they ever fix the crankshaft- damper problem for this model?? well, I will have to comeback and check on the common rail system. thanks, hector
