Regel coating a boat is great but I think it could be an endless list of problems.

Some boat owner are taking the cheaper way out , by just sanding and painting over the problem areas, i.e. (masking the problem)? The correct way of repairing this cracking gel coat problem could take as long as 1000 hours to up to 2000 hours per boat! Each crack needs proper preparation and then re-gel coated! It is a lot of man hours per boat! If the boat spend more time up North than down South, well those boats seem to have more issues?

Post Gel Coat

I have seen this gel coat problem on a 50 plus Post. Man it is ugly and very easy to spot. However, fixed is fixed and if done properly I don't see an issue.

i think this started as a pretty simple question. and im sure it was meant in fun. now ive never been fortunate enough to own either of these boats. but this far in and we are going to talk behind vikings back? now i understand that jersey cape is a sponsor, and thats great. no one is looking to bash that boat. i know im not BUT, you gotta be kidding me about viking! were really going to criticize them. i have seen a couple people make a joke about ocean yachts.........and all hell breaks loose. as i walk down a dock if i could afford to run it i would love to own perhaps one of the most successful sport fishing boats ever built. and im sure the same could be said of jersey cape, but i have never seen one. so let me be the first to jump in on what ill call an "ocean yacht mentality" and say i think anyone would be hard pressed to scoff at the quality of that boat. and tim, i can only think of the godfather movie where michael told sonny......"sonny, if you ever go against the family again, i'll kill you myself! i'm just kidding. now clean that 61 viking and be happy!

I can personally attest to Viking. I fished a 52 all summer and had the pleasure to fish the 60' demo for a couple of days. Like I have said before, "I believe Viking has it all figured out." I don't think there is a better built boat in its class, period! The fit & finish, sleak hull design, overall quality, and ride, are exceptional. Also, they seem to care about their owners and treat them well. I believe they want Viking owners to stay in the family of Viking owners. And no I don't work for Viking, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

The Viking and Jersey Capes are different hulls with different goals.

The business models behind the productions have different goals.

The common thread is: the highest-quality workmanship.

Viking prides itself on the craziest, most-high-tech boat building process.

Jersey Cape builds each boat with care, like a bespoke suit.

First, ride both hulls on a day when it blows NE 20 and it goes 4 to 6 with a 6 second period. Then, go talk to the Viking plant and to Wayne at the JC plant and answer your own questions.

I will add these comments to this and please understand I may own this site and most people would say I would be bias. To be honest I dont think Im bias, but I definitly work hard to promote those who support this site. Fact is though I would never promote something I do not believe in.

Here is the thing Jersey Cape vs Viking? Dont even see the comparison to be honest.
Viking is a monster and makes some killer boats and trust me I would not kick on out of the slipe. But to be honest Jersey Cape and something I really like and that is the owners! The heart and sole that goes into the boats is second to none.
The people who work in the factory are always smiling and polite. Jersey Cape to me has become family and I put my name behind them any day of the week. Jersey Cape also believes in SportFishermen.com and has helped this site in many ways by allowing us access to the factory none stop to give you all content and also has purchased marketing in the way of a top banner.

My phone call last summer with Pat went as followed. Hey Pat John Eppehimer from sportfishermen.com was wondering if you would like to get involed on sportfishermen.com in any way shape or form this year. His response was "John I am sure you have a great site but fact is its just a bunch of guys with out boards so we would not want anything to do with the site. You should check out yamaha or someone like that."

Fact is I still think Viking makes a great boat even though he basicly shit on my site and fact is we have more big boat owners online on this site then any other site that I have ever seen.

Fact is sponsor or no sponsor hubris this site is here for open discussion on all products but always keep in the back of your minds who keeps the lights on.

This is a good time to say if you are interested In a Jersey Cape Click here to check them out. http://jerseycapeyachts.com

Hope you all figure out witch one you would buy but no matter what stop by Jersey Cape and take a close up look at the product before buying anything in that range.

Happy boating and remember YAMAHA'S ROCK

I will say this about Viking. I have two close friends with a 52 and 55. Viking has always stepped up to the plate with ANYTHING.

That being said, I will be visiting the JC section at the Miami Boat show. I will inspect it THOROUGHLY. I think the boat is absolutely beautiful. Also, I like things that are not common, for example, there are 6 Vikings in my neighborhood. I don't think there are any JCs in the Miami area.

I will be doing quite a bit of fishing and traveling to the Bahamas. I truly believe the JC is more than capable. From what everyone has said, I should not be concerned with overall quality. That being said, I will check them out at the Miami Show. I will post my unbiased, honest report with pictures.

Thanks to everyone that posted.
