Upgrading Navionics chip?

I've got a '05 Navionics Gold chip in my '05 Humminbird Matrix 97 (ok, stop laughing....)

The chip I bought at that time was the water from NYC harbors to just south of Nova Scotia.....

Can I buy an upgrade from Navionics and simply swap it out?

Will I lose my waypoints (or are those stored on the units hard drive?)

Navionics will give you a credit of $100 when you trade in the old chip.
