Underwater lights /where to aim them
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am putting underwater lights on my Bertam 31. For attracting bait while chunking in the dark, the plan was to put 4 across the transom +/- 1 ft below waterline. Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not it is useful to have 2 in the bottom shooting down? My second option would be to shoot 2 down and 2 aft. |

Four across the transom in a 31' boat is a lotta light. I got two in a 35' and would suggest putting them low in the hull as possible. When you rock at night if they're close to surface they'll pop above waterlevel and keep blinding you with a bright flash of light. Much better if they're below water all the time if possible. Just my two cents. tom

As Tabasco said all you need is 2 pointing out the back. We have the xenon ones on our boat, and never had a problem attracting bait.

You've Got the Perfect World
Get a couple of 2010 Super Blue for out the back and two Super Blue Strobes for pointing down. Best of both worlds.
I've got the two out the back and would love to add the strobes straight down. Mine is a 32' FB.

out the back and down ...
we have a 28 Bert. for anything from bait to swordfish they stay cool looking (even while drifting or in chop) we have a v- displacement bracket with a dive platform so it cuts down on glare also. never thought about putting strobes in the bottom.... got em on my hook sets though
~ ... we also have the hydra glows that work great . |

We are putting them on our 50' Bert. this year and are contemplating the same thing. Not sure how many to install on the transom, 2 2010's or 3. I think we are also going to install 1 on each side of the boat about 1-2 feet forward of the transom. We are going with the super blue.

I have 2 1520 Ocean LED blues on our 35 Viking out the transom. Best thing about these is they are 1 inch holes with a 4-5 inch surface area covering it. Easy install and less to worry. In the hull on the bottom is a bigger hole and no where to go if something happens. If in teh transom, just get up on plane and no water can come in.
As for the 50' Bert, Iw ould definitely go with 3 lights spaced out through the transom.

Just Completed the Install
Here is a picture of our transom after installing the Ocean LED's. Had originally envisioned them further apart but this works very well.
