TWIN DISC QUICK SHIFT GEAR BOX

Does this type of gear box really live upto its motto: "you've got to feel it to believe it"- has anyone experienced them?

3400 hours behind c-32's with zero issues. Smooth, rapid transition with no danger of over speed hurting them. I would use them again in the future.

I have them behind QSM 11's in a 100,000 pound boat. While it is true that they shift very quickly and smoothly without any noise or lurching, I find that disconcerting and do not use the feature. Particularly in close quarter maneuvering, I find it reassuring to hear/feel the gears engaging. Maybe its just what I am used to, and maybe on a smaller boat I wouldn't be bothered.

on this one. I want to feel the gear solidly grab before I give it any fuel what so ever. I don't get it, next we'll want a boat that doesn't give prop wash. Frank

I have done boats with C-32's and ZF's with trolling valves and Quick Shifts and I wouldn't use anything but the TD's if it were mine. The trolling valve is so precise you can dial in any shaft rev's you want repeatedly (Whitey beware?) and the express mode makes docking almost as easy as with pods. On the first TD sea trial I was playing with them coming back to the dock and literally moving the boat an inch at a time, controllably (on a 63' sportfish)! I was actually having fun seeing what I could do and the boats captain was glaring at me from the foredeck, something about being January and windy made him want to hurry I guess. He later asked me what was taking so long and the next time he did the same thing, even the owner had his turn soon after and we all are still amazed.

I too was used to the "clunk" but I quickly forgot all about it. I've always heeded the old adage "fast goes crash and slow goes bump" and wouldn't use throttle docking unless absolutely necessary and with C-32's just fully engaged there is a LOT of thrust! Without that slow engage it's a little jumpy. The last couple boats are about 11 knots at low idle with both in gear and these gears let you go no wake speeds without having to neutral one engine and crab down the creek.

i fish on a boat that has twin disc quick shift, it is like a nascar backing down, so smooth and fast, whitey has no chance.
