I had trouble with a similar hydraulic setup (not with K planes) After poking around with a voltmeter it seems the motor that drove the hydraulic pump was bad. A year after the motor was replaced it stopped working in one direction ... bad solenoid. Both easy to replace. Worst part was the stupid pump location |

OK ... bit the bullet and ordered the new hydraulic cylinders. There are still a few parts I need to figure out how to get my hands on. I had to cut off the upper pins on both cylinders to get the old ones out so I need those pins. I looked at ordering them from the Mercury dealer and it was $50 BUCKS EACH!!!!
$50 bucks for a F#%&*#G bolt!!!! I think I will just search for a stainless bolt at a hardware store. The second thing I need to find is the llittle metal bracket that seems to just hold a cable. Might be for the Gaffrig indicator. The metal brackett that was there is rusted and broken at the bend. For identification purposes ... it is attached to a little plastic block that is screwed to the back of the boat. Anybody have an idea of where to find that little metal piece? The third thing I need is a new Gaffrig indicator. I think I should be able to get this through my Contender dealer in NC since I think it is still what they use on the new boats. Any thoughts or help is much appreciated!!!

I tested both solenoids and motors today and it all seems a-ok. Solenoids clicking and motors running. So now I just have to wire up my new switch which I relocated to the console next to the throttle. If I get it wired correctly (up, down, power shouldnt be that difficult) and get the tail end of the system working ... I should be good as new.
I still need to find that little metal bracket which holds the indictor cable and I also still need to find a Gaffrig indicator. So ... once the tabs are operating the way they should, its on to the electronics Thanks again for all your help. If you have any idea about my final missing parts please let me know.

Hate to bring this back up but I really need some help trouble shooting. So far I have replaced the switch, the hydraulic cylinders and all of the solenoids. I put in all new electrical terminals and cleaned everything up. The port tab seems to be working fine. Unfortunately, I am still having issues with the starboard side.
Here's the deal: I know the solenoids are good because I just replaced them. I know the pump is good because it runs strong when you jump the power directly to one of the pumps up or down wires. The problem is when I put it all together the solenods just click but do not run the motor. I dont get it? I have run out of things to replace on the power distribution side and I know the motor runs! For some reason the power is not making it to the up and down terminals. It would seem like it is a solenoid problem but they are brand new and clicking. Any advice is much appreciated.

I just wanted to add these couple of links with part #'s and diagrams so I know where they are at and other people can use them if need be. It was a pain in the rear to find them
