If it is the trim cylinder the part #is 845739A10 you might want to try the solenoid first that is located in the console next to your hydraulic pumps touch the 2 post,s with a screw driver and push the trim tab you need 2 people to do this.

Thanks so much to the both of you for spending time helping me figure this out. Its people like you that make this board what it is.

OK .... so it looks like the trim cylinder assembly is definitely what I need (at the very least). Looks like I can get these for around $350 each. So that means I am spending $700 bucks with the hopes that it fixes the problem or spend around the same money for a brand new set dual ram sport tab Bennetts.

Thoughts?

No thoughts? Is it worth salvaging the k-planes or should I just run with the new set of Bennets?

Anything bad about going with the Bennets?

Keep what you got, It will take you at least 5 hours to get that plane assembly off the boat, they are 5200'ed on there.

200 repair vs a couple thousand. The only thing that you can you out of the entire system is the rocker switch on the dash everything else would need to be changed out.

Mary,

How do you figure a $200 repair? Those things are $350+ each. That will be $700 and that still doesn't guaranty that they will work. The Bennet system around $700 for the dual ram system which I could pay for with selling the k-plane pumps. So ... the options are spending at least $700 to attempt the repair on the k-planes or spending potentially $0 and getting a brand new Bennett system.

I am not trying to find a way to argue against the k-planes. I wish I could figure out how to justify doing that because they are already on the boat ... but unless there is something bad about the Bennetts I just cant see why I should keep the k's.

Why not take the boat to a service shop and let them diagnose what is going on rather than guess and swap parts?

Maybe something a silly a wire came off the switch? Seems very odd for both sides not to be working.

As for 350.... price of metals have certainly gone up I haven't ordered one in over a year so its possible

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/2443/150.cfm

All the prices on here look like full retail

I am not sure how Bennet will cost you 0

When you have to replace the pumps in the console, tab assembly, actuators. Not sure if you will have to relocate the bennet pumps to the transom instead of the console. Then at minium 2 hrs of labor per tab to remove the plane assemble. You need 2 people to remove the thru bolts. At least another hour to clean all the old adhesive off the transom. The bolt holes have to Filled all the old holes, fiberglass repair. Not sure if the tab indicators work with Bennet so that is a 50/50. Then possible change all the bulkhead fittings where the lines go thru to the console. Just sounds like way to much work.

Labor wise you are probably looking at any wheres from 18 -20 hrs to remove the old tabs and install the new plus parts and misc supplie. I think

We are 110 per hr @ 18 hrs $1980 labor plus approx 300 bucks for us to have a fiberglass contractor come in and fill all the holes, and then parts , then launch, and seatrail and in water inspection for leaks. Then all in the end what if the boat performs like shit? Contender wouldn't use them just for giggles, it aids the performance of the boat.

Its your call.

Thanks for all the good points. Most of the labor I would do myself but it sounds like a bear of a project.

I dont have a choice about swapping the hydraulic cylinders out because they are corroded beyond repair. They literally have turned to dust. I can only imagine they are what caused the problem so I guess I will still try that route.

Thanks for all your advice! Ill let you know how it turns out.

Are there any signs of zincs left on the tabs? There should be 3 of them on each tab at all times. When they go then the next closest metal goes next.
