Transom Door?
I'm thinking of adding a transom door has anyone ever taken this project on? Not doing it myself will get a local glass guy to do it but want to here any experiences or advice on doing this.

I've never taken the project on , but I certainly like having one. Shouldn't be that hard to do. I don't like the ones where you have to lift the covering board to open the door.

i had a friend do it on his 32 blackfin. it was pretty much a cut out. and they then used that for the door. with a good glass guy, its a snap. fishskipper, if you dont lift the rail doesnt it make it a little more difficult? do you re-gaff the fish at the door? i will say though it looks a bit better without the cover board cut. one thing though, i would think about what type of anchor you will use for screws or bolts. well never mind, its a wooden boat. sorry.

Your right, it does make it a little more difficult. Yes, just re gaff thru the door or if your using a flyer its not a problem at all. But it gives the transom more integrity and a less chance for line hang ups. IMO ![]()

if you dont want to re-gaff your fish through the door, I believe you can just angle and bevel your cuts on the covering boards to let the door swing open without lifting the covering board or tagging anything.

I had installed one on my wellcraft sportsbrige. Not a hard job at all.The biggest part for me was to match out the gelcoat color once everything was reglassed in.Oh,the coverboard and door is one piece. One thing for sure is having to plan in and glass in all reinforcments before finishing up glassing the door and the cut out was used as the door.
