I recently installed a Lowrance HDS 5x on the little rig, I also installed a Airmar B60 12 deg. tilted element thru hull and the transom mounted ducer as back up. I had to swap the 5x for another one when it went crazy and cut off. Last 2 trips the new unit has quit reading bottom unless slow trolling anything over 5kts. and it won't read bottom. Well today we pulled the unit and carried it to West Marine and updated it with the newest software, then reinstalled it and hit the water, same problem?
I ran a seperate power cable to the unit to eliminate noise from other stuff on the fuse panel, then I re-routed the thru hull cable away from other powercables, trim tab cables and coiled the cable in a 1ft. bundle and zip tied it securely. This thing has really ticked me off. I unplugged the thru hull and plugged in the transom unit and instant bottom reading, marking bait like nothing I have ever seen. Bait clearly seperated from the bottom, even had a few of those arches you see on the simulator.
I am lost as to what is wrong, I'm not sure what transom deadrise my 202 Sea Hunt has, I wonder if the 12 deg. is shooting out the side and not getting a good return. Airmar also makes this in a 20deg. also. The transom unit's cable is ran right with my fuel management cable and main battery cables and doesn't show a hint of interference.
The thru hull is very flush with the bottom, Approx. 18 in. from the transom.
ANY ideas????????? Bad thru hull or wrong deg.tilt?
By the way the HDS 5x is by far the best FF I have ever used.

Make sure you have the right ducer all around. There is different configs for all makes and models.
I use this same application for many makes and models and rarely do I see, call airmar under the part #, It almost appears that they do not have a part # for it, and its probably gonna be a manual pin config during install. Could be wrong but I would call airmar direct. Wouldnt be the 1st time I seen a retailer steer someone wrong. Hope its not the case but be sure.
