    Which Transducer for 23' CC / Ray' DSM300 - C80

    Hey Guys,

I am looking for some input on transducers for my setup. I had a transom mount P66 and the "kick-up" tab broke off rendering it useless while underway. The transom mount worked okay but I wasnt happy with the way it held bottom at speed. I am thinking of upgrading to a thru hull, tilted element. I fish inland out to 500' or so for tuna and bottom fish. Is the 1k watt worth the money for my type of fishing? I appreciate any input. Thank you in advance.

You can run a screw into the mt for the transom mt and it will stop the kick up problem. The B 164 transducer is a good one and is 1KW. However, the hole for the mount is very big. You would have to find a spot that would allow it to be tight to the hull with no thru hulls, or other structures toward the bow from it. You need smooth water flow over the face and bubbles will mess it up some. You may be better off with the B 60- 600 watts. For several years I ran my charter boat with the 600 watt unit and it worked well. If you spend the majority of your time in the deep, the 1kw , which is a chunk of change, would be the one, but if you spend more time inshore, the 600 watt would be excellent. I think the 1kw earns its salt in 100 fathoms or deeper. THe 600 watt units served me well out to 50 fathoms and would give me the bottom in 1600 feet.
