Through Hull or Transome
Okay, it's getting close and I need to finalize my decision on a through hull or trasome mounted transducer. I bought the Raymarine A60 chartplotter/FF at a great deal. I have a 1984 24 ft Grady White. I did a lot of upgrades this year to get me out to the 30-40mile range. Do any of you have a preference or recommendation on how I should mount a transducer for my rig??? Any help insight would be greatly appreciated!

AKA Spineyman
Thru hull is the best for reading while running from spot to spot. You don't get turbulence from the bubbles from the transom. You can get decent readings from the transom if there is enough room to keep away from the prop wash

if money is not an option do the thru hull with no fairing block it only does depth and temp so no speed thru water.

Thru hull Airmar makes a good transducer.Tony.....

A properly installed transom mt works very well. Most problems with the transducer are caused by improper placement of the transducer. Figure this, if a transom mt sucked, why would the manufacturer offer it? My buddy has a 27' Scout with twins and a transom mt that will read bottom nand fish in 60' of water at 27 kts. It was done right.

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Thru hull all the way. Even a properly mounted transom transducer can break and move over time.

Try thr transom mt that came with the A 60. It should work great if installed right and if it doesn't then think of spending more money on a thru hull.
